Engineered Hardwood

Everything You Like About Hardwood Flooring and More

Engineered hardwood mirrors hardwood in so many ways. First, it delivers a natural appearance. Second, it’s available in different wood types, grades, and finishes, even more than hardwood flooring offers. Finally, engineered hardwood sturdy and durable, allowing it to last in your home for years. But engineered flooring offers more, namely better water resistance, enabling you to install it in locations like basements and kitchens where hardwood struggles because of moisture concerns. In addition, you can install engineered wood flooring easier than hardwood because you can staple, nail, float, or glue engineered wood flooring.

What is Engineered Hardwood?

ENJOY HARDWOOD’S TIMELESS BEAUTY IN MORE AREAS OF YOUR HOME.

Engineered hardwood flooring has a layered construction. The top layer of each plank uses 100% real hardwood veneer, available in a variety of species and on-trend styles. Engineered hardwood with a plywood core uses 5 to 7 layers of plywood, crisscrossed and bonded together. The bottom layer then includes another layer of wood.  Engineered hardwood with a Densitek™ Core is constructed with a 100% natural wood veneer top, Densitek™ core and 100% wood bottom.

This layered construction brings additional stability to engineered hardwood, making it less likely to expand and shift from environmental changes—and more appropriate for basements and other challenging installations.

Engineered hardwood is one of the two types of hardwood flooring Bruce® offers. The other is solid hardwood that uses a piece of 100% solid wood for plank construction.

Select from Lots of Flooring Options

Curious about hardwood grades and your flooring options? Bruce® has you covered.

Our hardwood flooring offers three grades, including Select, Natural, and Rustic. Each type of flooring comes with its own select features like knots, colors, and grain variations. Plus, each hardwood species incorporates these three grades.

For example, hickory flooring offers the most variation in color and contrast. On the other hand, oak flooring is America’s favorite hardwood floor thanks to its versatility, durability, and timeless nature.

When installing engineered hardwood make sure you randomize planks from different cartons to blend its natural variations. With Bruce, you’ll enjoy the finest DIY wood flooring available.

Durability

WHAT MAKES ENGINEERED HARDWOOD A RELIABLE CHOICE?

  1. It’ll brave the basement. Engineered hardwood’s layered construction is extra stable, allowing it to withstand potential moisture, humidity and temperature changes. So your floors will be less prone to expand and contract.

  2. It stands up to everyday use. Engineered floors, especially those using harder woods like oak, maple, or hickory stand up to wear and tear. They offer better scratch and dent resistance inherently. In addition, all Bruce® engineered hardwood comes prefinished with a protective finish for more substantial protection. That’s why some of our engineered floors come with up to a 50 year residential warranty.

Installing Engineered Hardwood Floors

3 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ENGINEERED HARDWOOD INSTALLATION.

  1. It can go where solid hardwood floors can’t. Well, not everywhere—bathrooms and laundry rooms are still a no-go—but basements are good. Engineered hardwood can also be installed over concrete floors and radiant heating systems.

  2. You have options. Staple or glue planks down. Or float ’em. This is where you interlock the planks end-to-end and side-to-side and the entire floor sits right on top of the subfloor, no adhesives necessary. If you’re the DIY type, floating is your friend. Otherwise, consider hiring a pro.

  3. Budget for the other stuff. As with any hardwood floor installation, don’t forget to account for wood molding and trim, old floor removal, subfloor repairs and tools.
