Below we’ve compiled an easy-to-use guide to answer your most common questions about Press-Locked Metal Grating, including how it is constructed, which alloys it’s available in, common applications, and specifications required for traditional construction.

What Is Press-Locked Grating?

Sometimes referred to as “Dovetail,” “Egg Crate,” or “Pressure Locked,” Press-locked bar grating offers exceptional lateral support and is known for its clean lines and aesthetics. Displaying equal load-bearing strength in comparison to welded grating, press-locked provides open space for light, air, and water to pass through and is often the grating of choice for pedestrian walkways.

Press-Locked Metal Grating Is Available In the Following Alloys:

Carbon Steel: Carbon steel is used often due to cost-efficiency and strength.

Stainless Steel: The material of choice for caustic environments, stainless steel grating excels in resisting corrosion and also withstands high-temperature environments. Our press-locked grating is available in 304 and 316 stainless steel.

Aluminum: Aluminum is the preferred alloy for its strength-to-weight ratio and overall durability. Non-sparking and inherent corrosive resistant properties make aluminum a sensible, cost efficient solution.

What Is the Spacing Range of Press-Locked Metal Grating?

 7/16” to 1-3/16” or 11mm to 4.8mm

This product is ADA compliant in 7, 8, & 11 space.

How Is Press-Locked Grating Made?

The manufacturing process for press-locked uses extreme hydraulic pressure to connect two close-tolerance slotted bars together. Once the deep crossbar is pressed into the bearing bar, permanent locking is achieved.

What Are the Applications of Press-Locked Grating?

Press-locked bar grating offers both aesthetics and practical solutions. Used throughout parks to add a touch of artistic flair and convenient walkways, press-locked grating features often on architectural projects while also providing functionality. All press-locked orders are fabricated to your outlined specifications. Additionally, press-locked bar grating is not recommended for rolling loads.
