You are working hard on your garden to make it one of the best in town. However, during the night, rabbits or raccoons can destroy the toil and sweat that you have put into your garden. The best remedy is to install a chicken wire fence. This article provides the installation procedure.
If you are serious about your garden and plants and want to save them from animal pests at any cost, you will have to seriously think about setting up a chicken wire fence. It does not cost much and is effective and versatile. This design is a lightweight and bendable fencing option which is also sometimes referred to as ‘poultry netting’, a term recently formulated for vegetable gardeners. It can be attached to any kind of pole that has been dug securely to the ground. To increase the security further, you can buy an electric fencing charger. It will make sure that the pests stay away. Try to locate the areas where wild rabbits may get into your yard and seal them up. You will have to look for areas with shrubs and bushes to spot their tunnels.
Apart from rabbits and raccoons, moles are also considered as pests. In order to keep them away, dig several inches down and set up a fence to make sure that the moles don’t come back. There are do-it-yourself projects which do not require much work or equipment. Staples, chicken wire fencing, and a way to tie the fencing to some stakes are all that it takes. These are found with half inch, one inch, or two inch gaps in wire gauges. These are available in farming supply stores.
Step 1
First of all you need to decide the fence area and mark it accordingly. Now, measure the distance between the stakes and then add both the measurements. This will be the length of your fence. Add an extra foot if the length of your fencing is not divisible by five.
Step 2
Divide the length by five and calculate how many stakes you need to build your fence.
Step 3
Take a string and tie it from one wooden stake to the next. This should connect them all. The string helps in guiding the setting for chicken wire stakes.
Step 4
Start with the corners and hammer the stakes into the ground. The rim should go completely underground. Lay a stake every five feet between the corners once they are set.
Step 5
Take a screw driver and break open the metal hooks on the stakes.
Step 6
In order to keep the animals from going underneath, the wire hooks of the fence should be attached to the fencing hooks.
Step 7
The hooks around the chicken wire should be closed and should be bound to the stake. This can be done by placing a sledgehammer behind the stakes and beating the hook shut with another hammer.
Step 8
The tent stakes should be pounded firmly to the ground for holding and hooking the fence to the ground.
Besides this fencing, there is barbed wire and horse wire fencing. Barbed wire is made with sharp edges with points arranged at intervals. Any human or animal trying to go through a barbed wire fence may injure themselves. Horse wire is used to separate mares and foals or stallions and geldings. So, after knowing how to install a chicken wire fence, you can surely try making one today for your garden. Your garden would become safe in no time at all.
